Watch Renault Zoe e-Sport Concept, Formula E Racer Cruise Paris

The Renault eDams team currently leads the Formula E standings and its racers Sebastien Buemi and Nicolas Prost currently sit in first and third in the Driver’s Championship, respectively. Since the next race of the season is in Paris on May 20, the crew is celebrating the strong performance in its home country by holding a parade of electric vehicles through the City of Light. The Renault eDams R.S. 16 race car and Zoe e-Sport Concept lead the procession in this video.

The drivers don’t keep in formation during this clip. However, if the Zoe e-Sport and R.S. 16 were in a straight-line race, you might be surprised at the winner. According to Renault, this conceptual hot hatch version of the Zoe can hit 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 3.2 seconds, which the automaker asserts is quicker than the open-wheel Formula E racer.

Renault revealed the Zoe e-Sport Concept at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show as a performance-oriented version of its EV. The hot hatch features a wider body than stock, and the exterior panels are carbon fiber. The company also strips out the rear seats. The tweaks mean the little vehicle weighs 3,086 pounds (1,400 kilograms) of which 992 pounds (450 kg) are from the batteries.

Two electric motors – one on each axle – produce a total of 456 horsepower (340 kilowatts) and 472 pound-feet (640 Newton-meters) of torque. The hot hatch reaches its electronically limited top speed of 130 mph (210 kph) in less than 10 seconds.

The E-Sport should be a sharp handler, too. The electric motors provide all-wheel-drive traction, and the suspension features Öhlins four-way adjustable dampers. Twenty-inch wheels nestle into the wide fenders.

Renault is already dropping hints about the next-gen Zoe. It reportedly shares the same platform and electric motors as the successor to the Nissan Leaf, which gives the pair have economies of scale for keeping costs down. We should have a better idea about what to expect soon because Nissan is currently teasing details about the second-gen Leaf.
